Silent NightA nice little sample of my set

Here's a recent build of my "penny" half-set. I have nicknamed her the "Falcon", after the Millennium Falcon, because she doesn't look like much, but she's got it where it counts! Bag is made of vinyl, the clappers for the bellows are red oak. The chanter and drones are brass tubing and CPVC. Many thanks to David Daye for his verbose, free instructions he posted on his website. The chanter reed is cane, and was built by myself under the instruction of Michael Vignoles. Many thanks to him, because his tuition cost for me was zilch. A closeup of the tenor drone. Baritone drone. Bass drone and a closeup of the bass drone bends. The joints are mitred, superglued to death, and thus a little sloppy. But it works! You'll also notice the wax daubed around the brass/CPVC joints. This is a band-aid fix for leaks I found here and there. The drone reeds are brass bodies with styrene tongues, except for the baritone drone, which has a traditional cane reed.

Some more closeups

I will soon be acquiring a set from Ray Sloan. I will post some pics when available.
